Imaging Specialists has been working with the Alleghany Sesquicentennial Committee, this year, to design fliers, tickets and brochures for the 150 year Celebration.
This is a view of our 2009 Calendar brochure. Along with the year’s events we’ve included several antique photographs, centennial photos from 1959 and many of our own images. The cover is a view from Turkey Knob, looking northwest toward the Virginia mountains.
Area Churches have come together to stage an event called Brush Arbor Day at the Alleghany Fairgrounds on May 30. It will be an all-day event recalling the old meetings held by traveling evangelists, who would come to an area and build an arbor or shelter from tree boughs for outdoor preaching or revival meetings.
We designed inexpensive one-color Bulletin Inserts (1000 2-sided, letter-sized documents folded to 5 1/2″x8 1/2″ to be inserted in church bulletins all over the county) and Flyers (15,000 1-sided, letter-sized handbills that would be posted around the region. Some as far as Myrtle Beach, SC)
Another interesting event planned for 2009 is titled An Informal Gathering. It is a Native-American get-together open to all nations that will include drumming, dancing and educational information. The event will take place August 15th, in Crouse Park, in Sparta, NC and will last all day.
We photographed the hosts, Kicking Deer and Winterhawk and placed them in front of a mountain scene for a simulated look back at the some of the first inhabitants of our region. The filter overlay adds to the old-timey, hand-drawn look of the image.
Ernest Joines of the Alleghany Jubilee has assembled over 100 musical performances by over 200 Alleghany artists on 4 compact disks for a great fundraising effort for the sesquicentennial. Imaging Specialists helped by designing the cover art for the cds. When placed side-by-side the image makes a panoramic photo of an Alleghany landscape from 1977.
These are just some of the interesting and exciting designs we’ve created for the 2009 celebration. For more of our work, Imaging Specialists has also designed, written and hosts the official website for the 2009 Alleghany Sesquicentennial at www.ac150.com.
